The Endless Path

By Dan W Mcmillan (-Silverpelt) Age: 19
Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia

The world turns and I turn with it
I gladly get swept along by its force
I think not of the future or the past
All I am is now, and now lasts forever
The world is filled with light
A light that fills the universe
And fills me completely with its radiance

The world turns and I turn with it
I see the force pulling me and twist
I fight it and it relents, pulling me slowly
Now I see the past as well as the present
And I contemplate what is to come
Still I am now, and now will last forever
Forever is so very, very long
There is darkness, but it a darkness I do not see.

The world turns and I turn with it
I feel its irresistible pull and see where it is taking me
I see the darkness and taste fear of absolution
Still I stand in the warm light
But now I fear
Still I am now, but now seems fleeting
I see the darkness, and I despair.

The world turns and I turn with it
I fight and struggle but I cannot prevail
Against the ancient enemy
I was blinded by myself, but now I see
I see that the light was merely a trick
I am now, and the past I cling to
But the future brings the shadow which grows ever longer
The devourer that will one day claim me

The world turns and I turn with it
I hang limp in its grasp
I have not the to the will to resist what cannot be resisted
I feel alone and helpless
The light seems pointless now
It cannot last, it must end
And I cry tears to the light for its abandonment
I curse the light I love so dear
The darkness looms before me, its maw spread wide

The world turns and I turn with it
It reaches for me and I take its hand
I let it lead me, no longer afraid
I ask myself the endless question
I walk the path without end
The light and the dark, they are the same?
To deny one is to deny both?
I see the answer but can never fully understand it

The world turns and I turn with it
I dance along the path wherever it leads
Once again I am now
I cling not to the past
I think not of the future
I am now, just now, and at last I see
The shadow is cast be me
It is the light that gives birth to the darkness
It is the flame of life that casts the shadow
I see them both and walk the line between

For this one moment I shall never die
For this one moment I shall forever be me
