This is Fuzz, an ocelot
at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound
in Rosamond, California. I am Fuzz's adoptive parent. (No, that does not mean I get to take Fuzz home)
This picture was taken by me on December 5th, 1999. It was actually quite an
amazing experience. The cats had just been fed, and I was about to leave. I
decided to make one last pass at the cats, so I stepped back out of the gift
shop. Nancy Vandermey, one of the volunteers, caught me at that time and
waved me over towards Fuzz. She explained to me that he was poking his head
out, so I might be able to get a better look at him than when he had been
hiding in his box earlier. However, as he had never been seen out during
the day, I did not expect much. However, no more than a few seconds after
I arrived, Fuzz decided to step out, and wander around his enclosure. Having
known his prior attitude, this was quite a surprise and quite a treat. I
snapped almost a complete roll of film trying to get a good picture.
Unfortunately the glare of the sun on his enclosure and the shadows of the low
sun made most the pictures unusable. However I was able to sneak in a headshot
between the links.
Of course, fuzz did not used to be so bold or friendly.
